Alex Rodriguez hit his 600th home run Wednesday, becoming the youngest player ever to join professional baseball’s elite “600 Home Run Club.” The club includes only six other members, the slugging titans of baseball, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Sammy Sosa and Ken Griffey Jr.
Rodriguez, 35, achieved the 600th career home run milestone during the first inning of the New York Yankees’ matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays. New York crushed Toronto 5-1 in the game at Yankee stadium. Rodriguez was already the youngest player to reach 500 career home runs, and became the youngest to hit 600, beating Babe Ruth’s record by over a year.
But A-Rod’s admittance that he took steroids between 2001-2003 before joining the Yankees may haunt him in any later hopes of getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame, The New York Times reports.
