How to Buy Quality Images for Commercial Use

May 23, 2022 by Gigi Leave a Comment

Content with images receives 40% more shares than content without. If you want to separate yourself from a sea of online content, you need that kind of engagement. You need good images.

But finding the right images can be a challenge. You can’t just use any image, they’ve got to be interesting and unique, and they’ve got to be eye-catching. And you need permission to use them.

Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about how to buy images for commercial use.

Hire Photographers or Designers To Create Images

As a business, you can hire photographers or graphic designers to create images for you. For full control over the image, it will need to be clear in the contract that your business owns it. That way, you do not need permission to use the image, and anyone else who uses it will have to buy the license from you.

While this is a great option, it’s not always possible. You might not have the time or resources to hire someone to create these images. In that case, you’ll have to look at sourcing the images from elsewhere.

Get Permission To Use Images

If you see an image you like, you can almost always contact the image owner and request permission to use it. But this is one of the least popular ways of buying images for commercial use.

The image owner might say no. Or they’ll say yes and charge you a fee for the image, and have conditions of use. The process of contacting the owner and negotiating terms of use can take a long time, so it’s usually simpler to look at other options.

Royalty Free Images

There are a few websites where you can find free images for commercial use. These are called royalty free images. Even though images are free to use, they still often require attribution for the photographer.

The problem with using these sites is that everyone can access them, so there’s a good chance other people are using the images too. The range of images is also limited since photographers opt for selling their images rather than posting them for free.

This all makes your content less likely to stand out from the crowd.

Stock Images You Have to Pay to Use

There are a few databases where you can buy stock images for commercial use. These are the sites photographers will sell their images to, or through which they license their images. This means the images are usually rarer and of a higher quality.

You can buy the rights to an image, or buy the license to use the image under certain conditions. The conditions will include acknowledgment of the image owner and limits on how many times you can use the image.

If you’re interested in standing out from the crowd, check out TopFoto. They have a catalog of classic, rare, and unseen commercial license images.
