If you want to keep your fabric sofa looking good as new, it’s important to clean it regularly and remove stains promptly. Unfortunately, there are numerous ways that your couch can get dirty.

You could spill liquids on it or accidentally smear makeup while taking a power nap. Not to mention, if you have pets or small children, that increases the probability of stains and dirt.

So, if you’re wondering how to clean a fabric sofa, check out the sofa cleaning tips below.

1. Vacuum

Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to vacuum the sofa regularly. This will remove dirt, dust and crumbs from the surface and prevent them from sinking into the fabric. It’ll also get rid of any pet hair that’s lingering around.

2. Remove Stains

If you have a fresh stain on your sofa, it’s important to act quickly and remove it before it sets in. This is one of the most important sofa cleaning tips. You must act fast!

To  remove stains from a fabric sofa, use a clean, white cloth to blot the area and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Then, mix one part water with one part white vinegar and use a spray bottle to apply it to the stain.

Use a clean cloth to blot the area again and continue until the stain is gone. If you’re dealing with a more stubborn stain, you can try using a store-bought upholstery cleaner. Just be sure to test it in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric.

3. Deodorize

After you’ve vacuumed and removed any stains, your fabric sofa should be looking pretty good. But if it still smells a little musty, there’s an easy fix for that.

Mix one part water with one part vodka (yes, really!) in a spray bottle and spritz it over the sofa. The vodka will act as a natural deodorizer and neutralize any bad odors.

4. Protect

To keep your fabric sofa looking its best, you should also consider investing in a slipcover or throw blanket. This will help protect it from dirt, spills, and stains. And if you do get it dirty, just throw it in the washing machine.

This is the best way to clean spills off a fabric sofa if you don’t have the patience to clean it by hand.

5. Don’t Eat in the Living Room

This isn’t technically a sofa cleaning tip, but it’s worth mentioning. If you want to keep your couch clean, try to avoid eating in the living room. This will help prevent stains and crumbs from ending up on your furniture. And if you do eat on the couch, be sure to use a napkin to protect the fabric.
