Chicago is a historic city. It’s the home of America’s first blood bank and the world’s first Ferris wheel. Those are just a few of its many achievements.
Chicago isn’t just a historic place, though. It’s also quite fun and can even be romantic. There’s no shortage of restaurants and attractions to visit with someone you love.
We’ll discuss some of our favorite date night ideas in Chicago in this article.
1. Visit An Art Museum
Chicago has no shortage of art-based attractions, and they’re all quite fascinating. The most well-known is the Art Institute of Chicago, a large museum that houses several floors worth of incredible works, the most famous being A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat and American Gothic by Grant Wood.
If museums aren’t your thing, there are also plenty of art galleries on Chicago Avenue and a celebrated spray-painted exhibition on 16th Street.
2. See A Show
Chicago is renowned for its performance art. One of the first things that come to mind when people think of theaters in Chicago is the Second City, the impetus for Saturday Night Live.
There’s also the celebrated Steppenwolf Theater, which was founded in Deerfield, Illinois in 1974 by a group of high school students. Some of these original founders included Gary Sinise and John Malkovich.
The theater troupe soon moved to Chicago and began to expand from there, hosting shows in various cities around the world, including New York and London.
3. Take A Class
Dating is all about experiences, and going attending a class in the city is definitely a unique experience. Chicago is teeming with different classes, and all of them are on interesting topics.
You’ll never find a class on Trigonometry or how batteries work. What you will find are classses for everything from cooking to improv comedy.
The great thing about taking a class on date night is that it is, by definition, a personal experience. There’s less to do while watching a movie, or eating a meal. In a cooking or potter class, for instance, any number of things could go right, wrong, or just weird, and any moment could prove memorable.
4. Take A Tour
There’s a lot of Chicago to see, and several different ways to see it. Sometimes, a romantic walk in Millennium Park is all you need for a great date. You could also take a helicopter or boat and see the city from the water or air.
Some places offer yacht rentals so you can explore the city’s waterways in style. Click here to learn more about these yacht rentals and the many services they offer.
History buffs will find no shortage of historical tours, especially those centered around the 1920s and the city’s criminal past.
5. Go To The Field Museum
We’ve talked about the Art Institute, but Chicago’s other Museums are just as incredible. The Field Museum, for instance, is home to the most complete skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and that’s just the beginning.
There’s also an inredible exhibit on Ancient Egypt, complete with various mummies, both human and animal. There are also inscriptions, jewelry, and toys which give insight into the lives of Ancient Egyptians.
There are also exhibits on gems, biology, and many other things.
6. Explore The Museum Of Science And Industry
Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry is dedicated to the human aspects of history. It has exhibits on everything from aviation and train travel to exploring an old coal mine and a typical street at the turn of the century. One of the more unique vehicles on display is the U-505, a WWII-era German submarine.
On the more scientific side of things, you can learn about how storms work, where we get electricity, and see some of the technology that took us to the moon.
7. Go Shopping
Whether you’re an established couple or are going Dutch on a first date, there’s not much that beats shopping in Chicago. Michigan Avenue, in particular, is known for its stores.
However, you can find quality stores all over Chicago, and those who don’t want to shop for clothes need not fret. You can fined shops specializing in books, vintage items, and various oddities.
Are you a practicing witch or interested in the occult? There are stores for you. Do you have a record player or an interest in old records? There are stores for you. Would you like to see a store full of random items with seemingly no central theme? There are stores for that.
8. Eat At A Restaurant
There’s a reason eating at a restaurant is a near-universal date idea. One thing all living creatures have in common is that eventually we need to eat.
Anybody who’s ever lived in a major city knows that you can find some of the best food there. Some of Chicago’s most beloved offerings include deep-dish pizza and hotdogs.
There’s also plenty of high-quality Italian food, Polish pierogis, and so much more.
